Ge Warburton

Ge Warburton portrait

A former arborist, her practice is deeply informed by years spent climbing and pruning trees, developing a close understanding of the structure and character of Australia’s native flora. Following the birth of her first child, she transitioned from arboriculture to art, exchanging chainsaw and steel-capped boots for ink and watercolour.

Working from her coastal surroundings, she draws inspiration from daily encounters with the distinctive forms of Australian branches, blossoms and seed pods. Her detailed works celebrate the textures and rhythms of the natural landscape that continues to shape her practice.Influenced by the legacy of May Gibbs and

Margaret Preston, her work reflects a sense of nostalgia for childhood exploration while focusing on the intricate beauty of flowering gums, banksias and other native botanicals.
